By Umoh Samuel

The Students' Union Government (SUG) of the University of Calabar has constituted a five-member Judiciary Screening Committee to screen and recommend qualified candidates for appointment into the Union's judiciary, in a move aimed at strengthening the institution's judicial arm and promoting accountable student governance.

The committee was constituted by the SUG President, Sen. Ebong Vordina Francis, according to a statement issued on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, by the Chief Press Secretary to the President, Comr. Okonkwo Goodluck Olisaemeka. The statement, referenced UCC/SUG/001/026/007, announced the appointments and outlined the committee's mandate.

According to the statement, the committee is expected to conduct a transparent, credible, and thorough screening exercise to identify competent and qualified individuals who will serve in the Students' Union Judiciary with integrity, impartiality, and a commitment to justice and fairness.

The committee comprises Kekayo Joseph Odum as Chairman, Antingha Daniel as Secretary, Obasi George Uchechukwu, Elim Miracle Esu, and Racheal Edem as members.

President Francis charged the committee to carry out its assignment with diligence, transparency, and integrity, noting that strengthening the Union's judiciary is a critical step towards enhancing accountability, justice, and effective student-centred governance at the University of Calabar.
