SUG Senate Crisis: Committee Questions Ebong Vordina’s Senatorial Status Ahead of Elections
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) Senate Fact-Finding Committee has raised concerns over the senatorial status of presidential aspirant, Sen. Ebong Vordina Francis, ahead of the forthcoming SUG elections at the University of Calabar Students' Union Government.
According to the committee, Ebong allegedly falsely identified himself as a Senator despite his name not appearing on the official list of the 12th Cohesive Senate of the union.

Reacting to the allegations during an interview with correspondents, Sen. Ebong maintained that he was legitimately admitted into the Senate through a supplementary process.
He explained that prior to his application, Sen. Edwin Ogar had already emerged as Senate President. Due to challenges related to time and distance, he contacted the Senate President by phone and requested assistance in obtaining the Senate form under the supplementary arrangement.
Ebong stated that he subsequently transferred ₦18,000 to Sen. Edwin Ogar for the purchase of the Senate form, adding that any discrepancy in the official cost of the form was overlooked because of incidental expenses attached to the process.
According to him, the Senate President later informed him that he had been approved under the supplementary list and was subsequently added to the official platform of the 12th Cohesive Senate.
He further disclosed that on October 29, 2025, he was directed by the Senate President to contact the Clerk/Scribe of the Senate regarding the processing of his Senate identity card and Senate cap, for which he allegedly paid ₦8,000.
Ebong also disclosed that on November 7, 2025, the Senate President requested financial appreciation for the assistance rendered to him throughout the process, prompting him to transfer an additional ₦5,000.
He added that on January 24, 2026, another request of ₦3,000 was made by the Senate President for what was described as an urgent Senate-related issue, which he said he complied with immediately.
Meanwhile, Senate President, Sen. Edwin Ogar, has denied Ebong’s claim of being a member of the 12th Cohesive Senate.
In his reaction, Ogar stated that “Vordina is not a Senator” of the Students’ Union Government Senate. He further argued that Ebong was a Year One student at the time, stressing that one of the requirements for holding any office in the union is the possession of a valid CGPA.
