NAIBS-UCC Inaugurates Newly Elected Executives at UNICAL SUG Senate Chambers

The National Association of Ibiono Ibom Students, University of Calabar Chapter (NAIBS-UCC), on Friday, 3rd July 2026, officially inaugurated its newly elected executive council during a colourful ceremony held at the University of Calabar Senate Chambers.

The event commenced with an opening prayer, followed by an Aluta Chat delivered by Sen. Erudite Obejang Shedrach, which set the tone for the ceremony. Guests and dignitaries were subsequently introduced by the Ibibio Students Union President, Chief Emmanuel Akpan, alongside other notable student leaders, including the Etina President and other invited guests.

In his opening remarks, the Eleco Chairman, Comr. Sabastine Maurice welcomed members and guests, expressing appreciation for their presence and unwavering support. He thanked everyone who honoured the invitation and noted that the gathering was convened to formally inaugurate the newly elected executives into their respective offices.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee thereafter presented the newly elected officers, affirming that they emerged through a credible screening and electoral process. He stated that the executives were not picked from the streets but had been duly screened and democratically elected by members of the association.

The inaugurated executives are Sen. David A. Asuquo as President, Sam Anietie Michael as Vice President, Inyang Aniebiet Abasi Archibong as Secretary General, Essien Happiness Ekong as Financial Secretary, Effiong Happiness Nseobong as Director of Socials, and Obonguko Precious Asuquo as Director of Welfare.

The oath of office was administered by Nengi Edmund Abam, COL, SAM, SANL, a Solicitor, Senior Advocate of Malabor, and a high-ranking officer of the Malabor Bar Association. The inauguration formally commenced with the President-elect taking the oath of office, after which the other elected executives were sworn into their respective offices.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the newly inaugurated President, Sen. David A. Asuquo, delivered his acceptance speech, expressing gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He pledged to provide purposeful leadership, foster unity among members, and work diligently to advance the welfare and interests of Ibiono Ibom students at the University of Calabar.

The event also featured the presentation of Certificates of Return to the newly inaugurated executives, symbolising their official assumption of office. A symbolic handover ceremony followed as the immediate past President, formally handed over the leadership of the association to the newly inaugurated President, Sen. David A. Asuquo, marking the beginning of a new administration.

The ceremony concluded with a closing remark delivered by the Vice President, Sam Anietie Michael, who appreciated the invited guests, members of the association, alumni, and all those who contributed to the success of the inauguration. He charged the newly inaugurated executives to remain committed to selfless service, accountability, and the continued growth of the association. The event officially came to an end with a closing prayer offered by the Director of Socials, Effiong Happiness Nseobong, after which members and guests interacted and celebrated the successful transition of leadership.
